First solo art exhibition
for Shetland parishioner
arlier this year Joyce Davies, a parishioner of St
Margaret's, Lerwick, Shetland was commissioned
Eby Shetland Arts to have her first solo art exhibition
at Mareel, a contemporary outdoor exhibition space
located on the waterfront of Lerwick.
Her work entitled "Doun the House" combines Joyce's
love for painting and writing which, over the last two years,
has seen her establish a new career in the arts.
In this, her first public installation, Joyce explores her
sense of home. She is inspired by the beautiful landscape
and the culture of Shetland. She is also deeply inspired by
churches, basilicas, and cathedrals around Europe, that she
never misses the opportunity to visit whenever she can. For
Joyce, the Church is a deeply important part of her life.
Having a memory that is made up of vivid images, Joyce
thinks a lot in pictures, and she shares these with honesty
in her work. Joyce’s journey to becoming an artist began Joyce's installation "Doun the House" combines her love
at Well-being classes at Mareel in 2019 and since then her for painting and writing (Photograph by Graeme Webster,
work has been exhibited internationally. Shetland Arts)
